1986 Former Deep Purple frontman, Ian Gillan left Black Sabbath. He had joined three years earlier to replace Ronnie James Dio, who had replaced Ozzy Osbourne.
1986 - Jefferson Starship garnered a No. 1 hit with their tune, Sara.
1988 - After a long-standing addiction to cocaine, Andy Gibb died from myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart.
1998 - Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland released his solo debut, 12 Bar Blues on Atlantic Records.
2003 - A Spanish hairdresser dished out over $1,000 for a lock of George Harrisons hair left over from a 1964 haircut. The lock was to be put on display at his Barcelona hairdressing museum.
2003 - Yusuf Islam, previously known as Cat Stevens, returned to the musical fray as he rerecorded his song Peace Train. There is a powerful need for people to feel that gust of hope rise up again. As a member of humanity and as a Muslim, this is my contribution to the call for peaceful solution, Islam said.
